Material: waste wood from remodelling

By combining CNC fabrication, coding, and traditional wood craft techniques, this project investigates how waste materials can regain their value. The project explores circularity by transforming wood waste into furniture, repurposing discarded materials instead of relying on new resources. Each stool reflects the diversity of wood found in dumpsters while following pre-designed templates. With the aid of computational design tools (Grasshopper), these templates are generated and arranged according to the material’s size and shape then cut using a CNC. This approach simplifies the manufacturing process, allowing each template to adapt to the availability of irregular materials. By combining digital computation with hands-on craftsmanship, the project balances standardisation and uniqueness. It demonstrates how rethinking the production system around material constraints can make sustainable design practical and accessible. The project positions furniture not merely as objects but as frameworks for continuous development, where everyday use, reconfiguration, and material value are embedded in the design itself.
