Standard, Non-Standard

These stools propose a way of working with irregular waste wood pieces by using them as a starting point in the design process. A Grasshopper definition was developed to translate the varying dimensions of the waste material into adaptable templates that can be read and cut by a CNC machine. Waste is not treated as a limitation, but as a resource capable of supporting consistent production while preserving variation. Each piece makes visible that value does not disappear when a material is discarded, it only waits for a system that can receive it again.

The cutting paths automatically configure themselves based on:

    • material's thickness
    • material’s width
    • the desired angle of the stool.

While maintaining standard dimensions so that the legs and surface can be assembled using a store-bought peg joint.
